Maybe you've heard the expression deus ex machina

or "God from the machine" - a plot device where a seemingly irresolvable problem is resolved by an unexpected or unlikely occurrence.


Deus Ex Scientia then is "God from knowledge" and is the pursuit of progress through the use of knowledge and science.

As a literary plot device, let's consider it the process of resolving seemingly irresolvable problems through the use of science instead of "the machine."
